How to do it

During any routine moment — dressing, snack, play — hold up two real options where you would normally just decide. The red cup or the blue cup. Socks or bare feet.

Name both clearly while showing them, then wait. Accept a point, a look or a word as the answer.

Say the choice back as a full phrase — 'the blue cup, yes' — and act on it immediately so the word visibly produced a result.

Why it works

A forced choice between two named objects gives a child a reason to produce a word rather than a cry, and the immediate result teaches that words change the world. It is the cheapest way to move a toddler from pointing to naming.
